Active Sport & PE Zone
Providing dedicated, fit-for-purpose areas for high-energy games like football and basketball. This ensures these activities can be enjoyed safely and support the PE curriculum without dominating the entire playground.
Our focus for this workstream is on moving away from a uniform asphalt expanse towards a Learning Landscape. We are looking for solutions that support both the delivery of formal Physical Education (PE) and self-directed play.
One of the strongest pieces of feedback from our parent/caregiver survey was the need for better zoning.

Agility & Physical Literacy
Exploring options such as obstacle courses, monkey bars, and climbing equipment that encourage fundamental movement skills, core strength, and physical confidence for all age groups.
Social & Imaginative
Creating hubs for cooperative play where children can interact in smaller groups and engage in creative, self-directed play.
Calm & Nature
Designing quiet zones for reflection and nature-based learning, situated away from the high-energy sport and PE areas.
As we evaluate different equipment and layouts, we are guided by three core principles:
We believe in providing challenging play where children can test their limits and build resilience. This includes exploring how to safely utilise the natural topography of the grass slope for climbing or sliding features, providing a varied terrain that is currently missing from the asphalt site.
With the playground acting as an essential overflow for PE and fitness activities, we are looking for equipment that promotes a wide range of movement — running, balancing, hanging, and climbing. Our goal is to support physical literacy, ensuring children develop the agility and confidence needed for lifelong health.
A core consideration is ensuring that the play value is accessible to all. We are identifying ways to ensure that children of all abilities find the playground engaging and have appropriate options for both physical education and social play.
